Govt to set maximum cost for household flights

The administration will set a maximum cost for residential flights following protests from buyers of high ticket costs amid the happy season.

Delegate Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said an expansion as high as five-crease in ticket costs happened amid top periods.

He said the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has been told to direct an examination on the maximum price tag for local flights.

“The normal flight ticket cost from peninsular to Sabah and Sarawak is around RM160.

“Amid the merry period, an examination by Mavcom has discovered that the ticket cost can increment by five times,” he said.

“Mavcom is setting up maximum costs for local flights, due for consummation by mid-2018,” he told the Dewan Rakyat.

He was reacting to an inquiry from Oscar Ling Chai Yew (DAP – Sibu) who got some information about the part of Mavcom in directing the cost of flight tickets.

In offering his conversation starter, Ling got some information about the measures embraced by the administration to guarantee ticket costs from the peninsular to east Malaysia does not increment amid the merry seasons.

“The legislature has neglected to control the cost. Amid such seasons, a flight from peninsular to Sabah and Sarawak can achieve RM1,000 one way,” Ling said.

Kaprawi prompted the general population to prepare and cease from purchasing their tickets at last.

He said the cost of flights tickets were set by the aeronautics organizations in light of a few components, including market request, financial circumstance and operational cost.
