Malindo Air flights topped record in flight turn backs in Malaysia since 2015.
The Transport Ministry exposed that Malindo had 20 flight turn backs out of 28 total flight turn backs in Malaysia since Dec 2015.
Within a written reply, Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said that Malaysia Airlines Berhad and AirAsia had four flights respectively that turned back all through the time.
He was responding to something by Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut), who asked for the reason AirAsia X flight from Perth to Kuala Lumpur turned back to Perth on June 25 and the incident of AirAsia X flight from Gold Coast to KL switched to Birsbane on Come july 1st 3.
Lim had also asked how many such incidents had occurred since 2015.
“For the occurrence of AirAsia X from Perth to KL, initial findings of investigations revealed that there was a moderate tremor in the first motor.
“This is considered to be brought on by fragments from broken engine fan blade which was inhaled into the engine, ” Liow said.
He said the aircraft could hardly maintain its elevation on air and had to return to Perth.
“Detailed investigation is still being conducted to ascertain the actual reason behind the incident, ” Liow said.
For the second AirAsia incident on July 3, he said was triggered by ‘birdstrike’ when the flight was taking off and entered into the aircraft’s second engine.
Liow said with this too, a detailed investigation is continuing to ascertain the real cause.
